BFCBrilliance builds free calculators and planners — 229 of them so far, across 8 subjects, from working out how much paint a room needs to what you have to score on a final exam.
The tool is the point. Most sites answer a question like “how much mulch do I need” with a thousand words that never quite give you a number. We would rather give you the number, and then explain it properly underneath.
Every tool comes with three things
- The calculator itself— no sign-up, no paywall, and it works on a phone at the merchant’s counter.
- A guide explaining how the maths works, what it assumes, and where it stops being reliable.
- A printable sheetyou can fill in by hand, carrying the tool’s own figures so it still makes sense away from the screen.
Where the numbers come from
This is the part we care most about. A calculator is only worth using if the constant buried inside it is real, so figures come from the organisation that actually publishes them — a regulator, a standards body, or the manufacturer’s own data sheet — and the guide says which one.
When the source material genuinely disagrees with itself, we say so and give a range instead of inventing a single confident number. When a figure cannot be sourced at all, we do not publish the tool. A few planned calculators are sitting unbuilt for exactly that reason, and we would rather they stayed unbuilt.
What we will not do
Anything touching health, money or building work defers to a professional, on the page, every time. A calculator is a starting point for a conversation with your doctor, your adviser or your local building department — never a replacement for one.
How often it updates
New tools go up three times a week, and existing ones get corrected whenever something turns out to be wrong. If you spot one, please tell us — corrections jump the queue.
Staying in touch
The email list goes out once a week with whatever launched. It is the only thing we send, and there is a privacy policy setting out exactly what happens to your address. For anything else, the contact page has the details.
