Weekly Sleep Log
Fill it in each morning while you remember. The pattern is the point, not any one night.

The arithmetic
- WEEK'S SHORTFALL
- target x 7 − hours actually slept
- Weekday loss
- add the Mon-Fri nights that fell short
- Weekend recovery
- add the Sat-Sun nights that went over
- Average shortfall
- target − (week total ÷ 7)
- 45 min a night
- is 5.25 hours a week — most of a night
- ⚠ Two weekend nights
- cannot repay five weekday ones
- ⚠ Recovery is not hour-for-hour
- the ledger is a metaphor, not physiology
- ⚠ Target is YOURS
- published figures are population ranges
- ⚠ Unrefreshed after a full night?
- that is a clinician question, not a sum
This week
| Night | Asleep | Target | Short by | Woke how? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
The week
- Week beginning
- My target
- TOTAL SLEPT
- WEEK'S SHORTFALL
- Average a night
- Average shortfall
- Nights below target
- Weekday hours lost
- Weekend hours recovered
- What I will change on WEEKDAYS
Logging it honestly
- Recorded time ASLEEP, not time in bed
- Filled in each morning rather than reconstructed on Sunday
- Target set from how I feel, not from a published figure
- Tracker figures treated as estimates, not measurements
- Looked at the nights-below-target COUNT, not just the total
- Change planned for WEEKDAY nights, where the deficit is built
- Repeated weekly — one week is an anecdote, a month is a pattern
- Persistent unrefreshing sleep or snoring raised with a clinician
The weekend cannot carry the week
Five weekday nights can lose six or seven hours between them; two weekend nights can recover one or two, because there are only two of them and nobody sleeps fourteen hours in one. That is arithmetic before it is physiology — and the physiology does not help either, since recovery sleep is not a straight hour-for-hour exchange for what was missed.
Small gaps, quietly
Forty-five minutes a night sounds like nothing and comes to 5.25 hours across a week — most of a full night, lost without any single evening feeling like a decision. That is why sleep debt accumulates unnoticed, and why the average nightly shortfall is usually more useful than the weekly total.
