Recalculate each term
| Term | Credits | Term GPA | Cumulative GPA | Needed from here | Still reachable? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
The arithmetic
- Quality points
- GPA × credits
- Points banked
- current GPA × credits earned
- Points needed
- target × total credits
- GPA needed from here
- (needed − banked) ÷ credits left
- Best possible
- (banked + max × left) ÷ total
- ⚠ Above the scale max
- not reachable — decide now
- ⚠ Transfer credits
- often no quality points
- ⚠ Pass/fail
- credits without points
Before relying on the figure
- GPA and credits taken from the registrar, not estimated
- Only credits carrying quality points counted
- Transfer and pass/fail credits excluded from the GPA credits
- Scale maximum set to YOUR institution's
- Repeat policy checked — replace or average?
- Scholarship minimum confirmed against its own terms
- Recalculated at the end of each term
- Adviser consulted if the target is unreachable
The credits behind you are ballast
The more credits you have banked, the less the remaining ones can move the average. A recovery that is easy at 30 credits can be arithmetically impossible at 90 — the same gap, a different amount of room.
