Before ordering
- A real brick MEASURED, not taken from its nominal name
- Joint width decided — it moves the count by about a seventh

The name includes the joint
A modular brick called 8 inches measures 7.625 — because 7.625 plus a 3/8 inch joint is exactly 8.0. That is designed, so bricks and joints tile onto an 8-inch grid and courses line up. Same trap as nominal lumber. Measure a brick rather than trusting the box.
Order it all at once
Brick colour varies between production runs, so a patch laid later from a different batch is visible for the life of the wall. That is a better reason to over-order than breakage is — and it is why the lot number belongs on this sheet.
