Add these separately
- King and jack studs for every door and window
- A header sized for each opening and what the wall carries
- Cripple studs above and below each opening
- Two or three extra studs at every corner and wall intersection
- Blocking where cabinets, rails or a TV will be fixed
- Anything the plan calls for that this count does not know about
Order a few extra and sight them first
Timber arrives bowed, twisted and occasionally split, and a stud with a crown in it shows through the finished wall. Buy a few more than the count, sight down each one before it goes up, and keep the worst for short cripples where a bend does not matter.
