Break-even setup = boost % x duration. Learn that one rule and most of these decisions stop needing a calculator.

Boosts you use often - work them out once
| Boost | % | Duration | Break-even setup | Usually worth it? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Before going to get a boost
- Break-even worked out: boost % x duration
- Setup time honestly estimated, including preparation
- Duration counted as ACTIVE earning time, not icon time
- Existing boosts checked - stacking may cut what the new one adds
- Considered grabbing it in passing instead of making a trip
- Currency or resource cost weighed separately from time
- Small boosts with travel treated with suspicion
- Decision written down for boosts you use regularly
Your rate cancels out
A faster player gains more from the boost AND gives up more during setup, in the same proportion - so the setup time that can be justified is identical for everyone. Efficient players should not be pickier about boosts; they simply get more from the same decision.
The icon duration is not the duration
What counts is the time you spend actively earning under the boost. A one-hour buff burning while you queue, read a guide or reorganise your bags is worth a fraction of its face value - and entering the icon time is the usual way this calculation says yes when the honest answer is no.
