What Sensitivity Gives Me My Target cm/360?

You've decided on 40 cm to turn a full circle. This gives the number to type in — or the DPI to change instead if you'd rather leave your sens alone.

The direction people actually ask in

A sensitivity converter takes your settings and tells you the sweep distance they produce. Useful when you're moving a known feel from one game to another.

But the question that usually comes first is the other way round: you've decided on a target and need the number to type in. Copied from a pro, matched to a friend, or picked because your old setup measured that way.

Copy centimetres, not eDPI

cm/360 is a physical distance — how far your hand actually travels to turn a full circle. It means the same thing on any mouse, at any DPI, in any game.

eDPI doesn't. It's just DPI multiplied by the number in the settings menu, and each game applies its own yaw factor to that number. Identical eDPI produces very different sweeps in different titles:

Same eDPI. Three times the sweep. That's why eDPI at the new setting carries a warning — it's only comparable against players in the same game.

If you're copying someone's aim, copy their centimetres.

Two levers, both valid

Sensitivity and DPI multiply together, so the same sweep is reachable either way. The tool gives both.

  • Changing DPI shifts every game at once — convenient for one consistent feel everywhere, a nuisance if you've already tuned each game separately.
  • Changing in-game sensitivity affects only that title.

Some players set DPI once and never touch it, partly for tidiness and partly because sensor behaviour and DPI-dependent smoothing can vary at extreme settings. And if your mouse only offers coarse DPI steps, the sensitivity route will hit your target more precisely.

The size of the change is the cost

How big a change that is exists because that's the whole decision.

Aim is muscle memory. A few percent is absorbed within minutes and you'll barely notice. Halving or doubling your sweep resets a large part of what you've built and takes weeks to rebuild.

If you're making a big move deliberately — because your current setting genuinely doesn't suit your desk or your grip — do it in one go and commit. Drifting back and forth between two settings is worse than either one.

Check it fits your desk

A 180° flick is half your cm/360, and it's the turn you make most often under pressure.

Put your Mousepad width in — measure it rather than trusting the product name, since sizes vary between makers and a pad that's been in use for years may not sit where you think it does relative to your keyboard. What matters is the width you can actually sweep across, not the width of the mat.

Pad left over after a 180° flick goes negative when that flick is wider than that — at a 100 cm target on a 45 cm pad, it reads −5. You'll run out of surface mid-turn and have to lift and reposition.

That's not automatically wrong. Plenty of low-sensitivity players reposition constantly and are perfectly effective. But it should be a choice rather than a surprise.

The arithmetic

sweep     = 2.54 × 360 ÷ (DPI × sens × yaw)
sens      = 2.54 × 360 ÷ (DPI × yaw × target)
DPI       = 2.54 × 360 ÷ (sens × yaw × target)

The 2.54 is the exact inches-to-centimetres conversion. Nothing is approximated.

The only uncertainty is whether the yaw matches what your game actually uses — the three here match the Mouse Sensitivity Converter on this site, so the two tools always agree.

Turn acceleration off first

Mouse acceleration breaks the relationship entirely: with it on, the distance you travel depends on how fast you move, so no single cm/360 exists.

Same for in-game smoothing or filtering, and Windows pointer speed should sit at its default step. Get those right before measuring anything, or you're tuning a number that doesn't hold still.
