How this is calculated

THIS IS THE INVERSE OF A SENSITIVITY CONVERTER, AND IT IS THE DIRECTION PEOPLE ACTUALLY ASK IN. A converter takes your settings and tells you what sweep distance they produce. This takes the sweep distance you WANT and tells you the setting that produces it. The Mouse Sensitivity Converter on this site does the forward direction, including game-to-game conversion; use that when you are moving a known feel between titles, and this when you have a target in centimetres and need the number to type in. CM/360 IS THE ONLY MEASURE THAT TRANSFERS. It is the physical distance your mouse travels to turn a full circle, so it means the same thing on any mouse, any DPI and any game. eDPI does not: the same eDPI produces very different sweeps in different titles because each game applies its own yaw factor to the number you type in. If you are copying a setting from someone, copy their cm/360. THE ARITHMETIC IS EXACT. Sweep distance is 2.54 x 360 ÷ (DPI x sensitivity x yaw), so solving for sensitivity gives 2.54 x 360 ÷ (DPI x yaw x target). The 2.54 is inches to centimetres and nothing here is approximated - the only uncertainty is the yaw value your game uses. ⚠️ THERE ARE TWO LEVERS AND THEY ARE INTERCHANGEABLE. Sensitivity and DPI multiply together, so the same sweep can be reached by changing either. The tool gives both routes. Which to move is a real choice: changing DPI keeps your in-game number tidy and shifts every game at once, while changing sensitivity affects only that title. Sensor behaviour at very high or very low DPI, and any DPI-dependent smoothing, are reasons some players prefer to leave DPI alone once it is set. ⚠️ A BIG CHANGE IS NOT A FREE CHANGE. Aim is muscle memory, and moving your sweep distance by a large percentage resets a good part of it. A change of a few percent is absorbed in minutes; halving or doubling your sweep costs weeks. The percentage output is there so the size of the decision is visible before you make it, not after. CHECK IT FITS YOUR DESK. A 180° flick is half your cm/360, and if that is wider than the space beside your keyboard you will run out of pad mid-turn and have to reposition. The headroom figure is the honest test of whether a low-sensitivity target is practical where you actually sit. How is this different from a sensitivity converter?
It runs the other way. A converter takes the settings you already have and tells you the sweep distance they produce, which is what you want when moving a known feel from one game to another. This takes the sweep distance you WANT and gives you the number to type in, which is what you want when you have decided on a target - copied from a pro, matched to a friend, or picked because your old setup measured that way. Why cm/360 rather than eDPI?
Because cm/360 is a physical distance and eDPI is not. Sweep distance means the same thing on any mouse, at any DPI, in any game - it is how far your hand actually moves to turn a full circle. eDPI is just DPI multiplied by the number in the settings menu, and each game applies its own yaw factor to that number, so identical eDPI produces very different sweeps in different titles. That is why the eDPI output here carries a warning: it is only comparable against players in the same game. If you are copying someone's aim, copy their centimetres.
Should I change sensitivity or DPI?
Either works, since they multiply together, and the tool gives both routes. The practical differences are worth knowing. Changing DPI shifts every game at once, which is convenient if you want one consistent feel everywhere and a nuisance if you have already tuned each game separately. Changing in-game sensitivity affects only that title. Some players prefer to set DPI once and never touch it, partly for tidiness and partly because sensor behaviour and any DPI-dependent smoothing can vary at extreme settings. If your mouse only supports coarse DPI steps, the sensitivity route will also hit your target more precisely.
How big a change is too big?
There is no hard limit, but the percentage figure is there because the size of the change is the whole cost. Aim is muscle memory: a few percent is absorbed within minutes and you will barely notice, while halving or doubling your sweep resets a good part of what you have built and takes weeks to rebuild. If you are making a large move deliberately - because your current setting genuinely does not suit your desk or your grip - it is usually better to do it in one go and commit, rather than drifting back and forth and never settling into either.
What does negative pad headroom mean?
That a 180° flick is wider than your mousepad, so you will run out of surface part-way through the turn and have to lift and reposition. That is not automatically wrong - plenty of low-sensitivity players reposition constantly and are perfectly effective - but it should be a choice rather than a surprise. If the headroom is negative and you do not want to reposition, either raise the sensitivity, get a wider pad, or accept the lift. The 180° figure is the one to check because it is the turn you make most often under pressure.
Where do the yaw values come from?
They are constants each game applies to the sensitivity number you type in, and they are why the same setting feels different across titles. A game not on the list will have its own value - some publish it, and for others the community has measured it precisely. If you are working with a game that is not listed, find its yaw first, because every figure on this page depends on it.
Is the arithmetic exact?
Yes, given the yaw. Sweep distance is 2.54 times 360 divided by DPI times sensitivity times yaw, and solving that for sensitivity is straightforward algebra - the 2.54 is the exact inches-to-centimetres conversion and nothing is approximated. The only uncertainty in the whole calculation is whether the yaw value matches what your game actually uses, which is why it is worth confirming for anything outside the listed titles. Some games also apply acceleration or smoothing by default, and those break the relationship entirely - turn them off before measuring anything.
