How this is calculated
eDPI is simply DPI multiplied by in-game sensitivity. That is the whole formula. WHY IT EXISTS: neither number means anything on its own. 400 DPI at 2.0 sensitivity and 1600 DPI at 0.5 both give an eDPI of 800, and both move the crosshair exactly the same distance for the same hand movement. Someone saying 'I play on 0.5' has told you nothing without their DPI, and someone saying 'I play on 1600 DPI' has told you nothing without their sensitivity. eDPI is the number that actually compares. This is why pro settings lists quote eDPI. It is the only figure that survives someone else's hardware. ⚠️ eDPI ONLY COMPARES WITHIN THE SAME GAME. Different games scale sensitivity differently, so an eDPI of 800 in one title is not the same physical aim as 800 in another. Converting between games needs each game's own sensitivity scaling factor, which is a different calculation entirely and not what this does. Compare CS players against CS players. THE PRACTICAL USE is changing DPI without changing your aim. If you move from 800 to 1600 DPI, halve your in-game sensitivity and your muscle memory is untouched - the tool works that out for whatever new DPI you enter. This matters because DPI is a hardware setting that people change for reasons unrelated to aim: a new mouse, a different surface, or Windows behaving differently between machines. DPI ITSELF IS NOT NEUTRAL, even at matched eDPI. Very low DPI can produce visibly stepped movement, because the sensor reports fewer positions per inch and the game has less information to work with. Very high DPI can pick up more sensor noise and, on some hardware, is achieved by interpolation rather than genuine resolution. Most people settle somewhere in the 800 to 1600 range for that reason, and adjust in-game sensitivity to taste. ⚠️ WINDOWS POINTER SPEED SHOULD BE AT THE MIDDLE NOTCH - the sixth of eleven. Anything else applies an additional multiplier outside the game, and on some settings it drops or duplicates counts rather than scaling smoothly. Nothing here accounts for it, and neither does anyone's published eDPI. Turn 'Enhance pointer precision' off as well; it is mouse acceleration, and it makes the same hand movement produce different results depending on speed. There is no correct eDPI. Lower suits deliberate, arm-driven aim and games with long engagements; higher suits fast target switching and games where you must turn quickly. What matters far more than the number is that it stops changing.

Compare within a game - a CS eDPI against another CS eDPI - and treat a number quoted from a different title as meaningless until it has been properly converted.
- I want to change my DPI without ruining my aim.
- That is what the second output is for. Multiply your DPI by some factor and divide your in-game sensitivity by the same factor, and your eDPI - and therefore your aim - is untouched. Going from 800 to 1600 means halving your sensitivity. This comes up more than people expect, because DPI gets changed for reasons that have nothing to do with aim: a new mouse, a different mousepad, or moving between machines.
- Does DPI matter at all if eDPI is the same?
- A little, at the extremes. Very low DPI can produce visibly stepped movement, because the sensor reports fewer positions per inch and the game has less to work with. Very high DPI can pick up more sensor noise, and on some hardware the highest settings are reached by interpolation rather than real sensor resolution. In the middle - roughly 800 to 1600 - the difference is not something most people can detect, which is why that is where most players end up.
- What about Windows pointer speed?
- Put it on the middle notch, the sixth of eleven, and leave it there. Anything else applies a multiplier outside the game, and some settings drop or duplicate mouse counts rather than scaling cleanly. Turn off 'Enhance pointer precision' too - that is mouse acceleration, and it makes the same hand movement produce different results depending how fast you move. Neither this calculator nor anyone's published eDPI accounts for either setting, so they have to be neutral for the number to mean anything.
- What eDPI should I use?
- There is no correct answer, and anyone who tells you otherwise is describing their own preference. Lower suits deliberate, arm-driven aim and games with long-range engagements; higher suits fast target switching and games where you need to turn quickly. What matters considerably more than the number is that it stops changing - aim is muscle memory, and muscle memory is built by repetition. Copying a pro's eDPI is a fine place to start and a poor place to keep re-starting from.
