There are a lot of body calculators on the internet and most of them share a problem: they report a number to one decimal place and say nothing about where it came from or how much it can be trusted.
These tools all show their working. This guide is about which one answers which question, and how much weight to put on each answer.
Before anything else: none of this is medical advice, and none of these numbers can diagnose anything. If you have a specific concern, a clinician has context that a formula does not. Use these for orientation, not for decisions about your health.
Start with what you are actually asking
Four different questions get confused constantly:

They are not interchangeable, and the first two get mixed up more than any other pair on this list.
BMI measures a ratio, not a body
BMI is height and weight, and nothing else. It cannot tell muscle from fat, it does not know where weight sits, and it was built to describe populations rather than individuals.
That does not make it useless — it is a fast, consistent, free screening ratio, which is why it is still everywhere. It just means the number is a starting question, not a conclusion. The tool gives you the ratio and the weight range for your height, along with an honest account of what it cannot tell you. Read that part.
If BMI is the only number you look at, you will misread a lot of bodies, including possibly your own.
Body fat: the units matter more than the method
The Body Fat Calculator uses the Hodgdon–Beckett circumference method, and there is one thing worth knowing before you use it or any other version of it.
It takes inches. Feeding the same constants centimetres reports 26.7% for a body that is 20.1%. That is not a small drift — it is a different category, produced entirely by putting correct measurements into the wrong unit. Any circumference-based calculator that does not tell you which unit it wants should be treated with suspicion.
Measure consistently, at the same time of day, and care about the trend rather than any single reading. Circumference methods have real error bars against something like a DEXA scan; what they are good at is telling you which direction you are going.
Ideal weight is the weakest number here, and it is worth understanding why
The Ideal Weight Calculator runs Devine and Hamwi side by side, and they disagree by pounds for the same height.
That disagreement is the useful output. Both formulas were built to dose medication — to give clinicians a defensible body-size figure for a calculation — not to tell anyone what they should weigh. They have been repurposed into a goal, which is not what they were for, and the fact that two respected formulas differ on the same person tells you how much precision is really available.
Use it for a rough bracket. Do not use it as a target.
TDEE is the one to build a plan on
The TDEE Calculator uses Mifflin–St Jeor and splits the result into the part that is just staying alive and the part your activity adds. Of everything here, this is the number most worth having, because it is the one an actual plan gets built on.
The activity multiplier is where the error lives. People consistently overestimate it. If your results are not matching the numbers over several weeks, that setting is the first thing to revisit, not the equation.
Timelines are optimistic, and the tool says so
The Calorie Deficit Timeline Calculator is built on the 3,500-calories-per-pound rule, which researchers have shown overestimates real weight loss — the body adapts, and the rule assumes it does not.
The tool reports its optimistic figure and tells you it is optimistic, which is the honest way to publish it. Treat the output as the fastest plausible case rather than a schedule, and expect reality to run behind it.
And one that is not about body composition at all
The One-Rep Max Calculator sits in this group because it is the same kind of object: an estimate from a published formula, with real uncertainty.
It runs Epley and Brzycki together, and they cross at exactly ten reps — agreeing there, and diverging either side. Below five reps the estimate is reasonably tight; at high rep counts both formulas are extrapolating well past what they model well. Use it to pick a working weight, not to claim a number you have never lifted.
