Gearing a character up is arithmetic you do once. Building something is arithmetic you get wrong slowly, over an afternoon, and only notice when the chest is still half empty.
These four tools cover the numbers that decide whether a build is worth starting: what it costs, what it burns, what it actually produces, and whether it fires when you wanted it to.
Beacons: the fourth tier is half the build
The Beacon Calculator produces one of the most useful numbers in the game for anyone planning a big build: a full pyramid is 164 mineral blocks, and the fourth tier alone is 81 of them — roughly half the total, for one extra effect.
That is a genuine decision rather than a formality. Three tiers is a real, useful beacon for about half the mineral cost. If you are mining for iron to finish a fourth tier, it is worth knowing you are spending half the project on the last step. Multiply it by however many beacons you are planning and the number gets serious quickly.
Fuel: the crafting grid trick is real
The Fuel Calculator works out how much fuel a smelt needs, and it explains something that looks like a bug and is not.
Nine coal in a crafting grid becomes a block of coal, and that block smelts eight more items than the nine coal would have done in the furnace. The conversion is genuinely more efficient than the sum of its parts. If you are running a big smelting session, converting first is free value.
Work out the fuel before you start rather than topping up mid-run — an under-fuelled furnace is how a smelting session turns into two.
Farms: measure it, and measure it long enough
The Farm Rate Calculator is the one that settles arguments. Run the farm for a known number of minutes, count what came out, enter both, and it gives you items and stacks an hour, how long your storage takes to fill, and how long until you have the amount you actually need.
A measured rate beats a design-spec rate every time, because it already includes your chunk loading, your mob caps, your hopper throughput and whatever is quietly going wrong that the build video didn't have.
The output people skip is the honest one: the margin of error on what you measured. If items arrive independently, the rough error on a count is 100 divided by its square root — so 100 items is about ±10% and 400 items about ±5%. A two-minute test that caught thirty items is not a rate, it is an anecdote, and the tool will tell you how many more minutes you need before the number is worth quoting.
Redstone timing, without the guesswork
Redstone timing is where "add another repeater and see" wastes the most time, because the units are the problem. A repeater's delay is set in redstone ticks, the game runs in game ticks, and you are trying to hit a target in seconds — and the conversions are 2 and 20.
The Redstone Timing Calculator goes both ways. Four repeaters on the default four-tick setting is 16 redstone ticks, 32 game ticks, 1.6 seconds — and at that rate a farm pulses 37.5 times a minute, which the tool turns into an items-per-hour figure if you tell it the yield per pulse.
Going the other way is the part worth having. Ask it for a 3 second delay and it tells you to place 7 repeaters at full delay and set the last one to 2 — because 3 seconds is 30 redstone ticks, and 30 does not divide by 4. That last partial repeater is the step people miss, and it is why a hand-tuned clock ends up close to the target rather than on it.
